Seminor on Disaster Nursing Skills

A workshop to train rescue team members is held each year by the Aichi Prefecture Branch of the Japanese Red Cross Society at the Japanese Red Cross Toyota College of Nursing. In the workshop, doctors and nurses belong to the Red Cross Society learn about care for the injured in the event of a disaster, while students experience acting as the injured/families as part of the <Red Cross Disaster Nursing Seminars>. The Aichi Disaster Relief Aviation Corps, Aichi Police, and Toyota City Fire Department also participate in the workshop, and conduct drills for the emergency helicopter transport of the injured. The workshop allows students to learn about preparedness and the skills needed by Red Cross rescue team members in a tense atmosphere.

English (optional program)

International rescue projects are one of the Red Cross activities. This program provides language training for students to improve their English skills while learning about the latest medical and welfare activities in the United Kingdom. Staying in Plymouth, a historical port city situated in the south-eastern area of England, students will take English lessons at a language school in the morning, and visit the Red Cross Society, medical institutions, welfare facilities, universities (nursing departments), and volunteer organizations in the afternoon. It will be a valuable opportunity for students to learn about medical/welfare environments and nursing methods, which are different from those in Japan, through exchange with local workers. Furthermore, presentations to report learning outcomes in English after returning to Japan will markedly enhance their self-confidence.

Practicum in International Disaster Nursing (optional program)

This practicum nurtures nursing competencies through learning experience about public health activities and medical support in developing countries, such as Southeast Asian countries. It will be a good opportunity for students to realize the actual situation of these countries, which is different from that of Japan, and exchange with people engaged in support activities and students of local universities. They are expected to develop humanity-based broad perspectives on nursing through this experience.
